Fan content
Make things with our potatoes. Here is how.
We would love you to draw the Tuffelrud potatoes, write about them and make things with them. This page says what is fine, what is not, and how a potato you invent could one day join the cellar.
Go ahead
- Draw, paint, write, cosplay, knit, animate or sing about Tuffelrud characters, places and stories.
- Share it anywhere, for free.
- Your version does not have to match ours. Fan work is not canon, and that is part of the fun.
A few things we ask
- Credit us. Say it is based on Tuffelrud, with a link when you can.
- Say it is yours, not ours. Do not make it look official, or as if we made, approved or sponsor it. A line like "Fan work, not made or endorsed by Tuffelrud" is plenty.
- Not for sale. Keep it non-commercial: no shops, prints, merchandise, paywalls or crowdfunding with our characters. Tips on a free post are fine. If you want to sell something, wait until we have a contact address and ask.
- No NFTs or tokens. Never mint, sell or trade our characters, or anything made from them, as NFTs, crypto tokens or anything like them.
- No AI training. Do not put our characters, drawings or writing into a dataset for training or fine-tuning an AI model, and do not train a model to imitate them. We know our own drawings are made by an AI. That is exactly why we are careful about where they go.
- Keep it kind. No hate, harassment or sexual content with our characters, and do not use them to mock real people or cultures.
- Do not copy our art as-is and call it yours. Sharing our pictures with credit is fine; tracing them into "your" art is not.
Featuring your work
We may want to show fan work on the site or in a post. We will always ask you first, credit you the way you want, and take it down if you change your mind.
Proposing a potato
Some day we hope to welcome a potato a fan thought of. We are not taking proposals yet: there is no contact address. When we are, this is how it will work.
- It starts with a real variety. Every potato in Tuffelrud is a real potato variety, and every trait has a reason in its botany or history. Tell us the variety and why your character is the way they are.
- The world's rules apply. No Andean native varieties yet (they wait for a conversation with Andean and Quechua people), no characters drawn from the Irish Famine, no real private people, no brand names or protected food names as names, and potatoes in Tuffelrud are never eaten.
- We draw the canon version. If we take your potato in, we draw and write the canon version ourselves, and it may change along the way.
- You get permanent credit. The character's page will say it was proposed by you, under the name you choose, for as long as the character exists.
- A licence, not a transfer. By proposing, you give us a free, non-exclusive, permanent, worldwide licence to use your idea and anything you send with it in Tuffelrud. You keep your own drawings and writing and can keep using them in your own fan work. This is not a paid commission.
- We may say no, or be slow. We may also already be working on something similar; we cannot promise nobody else had the same idea first.
- Under 18? Ask a parent or guardian to agree with you before you send a proposal.
The small print
- Some of what we make, like drawings made by an AI, may not be protected by copyright everywhere. This page is a request and an agreement in good faith, and it covers the names, the writing and the world as well as the drawings.
- We may change this page as Tuffelrud grows, and we may ask anyone to take down fan work that breaks it.
- This is a plain-words draft, not legal advice, and it has not been reviewed by a lawyer yet. It will be before Tuffelrud opens to the public.
